Coconut Oil is unique from other saturated fats in that it is made up of medium-chain fatty acids, which rather than store as fat in the body, it tends to be broken down easier and used for energy. As a cooking oil, it stays stable at high temperatures, unlike other oils which can break down easily when heated creating free radicals which speed up the aging process. It also contains lauric acid, which can helps support the thyroid, and has antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. It has been shown to increase metabolism, stabilize blood sugar levels, and reduce some the work of the adrenals.
I have 1T a day in my smoothies, sauté all my veggies in it, and it is hands down the best moisturizer and makeup remover I have ever tried. Save your money buying expensive cleansers, makeup removers, and tubs of moisturizer, which are most likely packed with toxic chemicals....and give virgin coconut oil a try.
I even use it in my sugar + honey body scrub (recipes to come).
