Please share with us a bit about your journey to the wellness world and how VERED organic botanicals came to be.
It has been a long journey and a lot happened to bring me to this path. I have been working with essential oils for 27 years, and was amazed by their benefits for the skin, our health, and the mind. However, at that point I was too busy helping my clients on a daily basis and didn’t even think about creating a line. I used to always give my clients the leftovers of the oils that I would custom blend for their treatment. They always loved this,and said that they cherished their little vial. Then a few years ago I got really sick. I didn’t understand what was happening to me as I had always had a clean lifestyle and good nutrition. After a few years of being sick with no improvement or any real diagnosis, I realized conventional medicine had no answers or solutions for me. This made me understand that it’s just going to be me helping myself. With that knowledge I dove deep into herbalism and managed to bring myself back to life. Most of the herbs that I used to heal myself internally I use today in my products. Besides that, my clients were begging me to come out with my own product range for a very long time. But I wasn’t ready until I felt that I had something very special to offer, and combining the essential oils with the therapeutic herbs are the perfect combination to achieve the best result that I was looking for.
What was/were your inspiration/s?
My biggest inspiration was my own healing journey and the quest to find inner health on every level. For the last ten years every day has been steeped in research from herbs, food, supplements, metals, detox, energy healing etc. What I have learned is that the wealth of knowledge available to us is vast and endless. You just need to have the awareness and commitment to that lifestyle. I have found that this is the only way to go for a healthy body and mind. Of course all of this information was very helpful in creating VERED organic botanicals. I realized that if I can heal my body internally with these herbs, I could definitely heal our skin. All my research will eventually show up in my products. For instance the Therapeutic Balancing Face Oil is made entirely of anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-oxidant oils.
What are a few absolute favorite products from your line that work best for these upcoming Summer months?
My top recommendations would be:
HERB-INFUSED TONER (am/pm) :: is great for removing face make-up without drying the skin. It’s very light, calming, cooling and full of vitamin C (from the hibiscus flowers, orange peel, and lemon peel) that is extremely beneficial for rejuvenating the skin. It leaves your skin so hydrated and fresh that sometimes people don’t even feel the need to use an additional hydrator. This product is excellent for all skin conditions.
THERAPEUTIC BALANCING FACE OIL (am/pm) :: is lightweight easily absorbed oil. It’s perfect for normal to very problematic skin. It’s anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and has anti-oxidant oils. It keeps yeast and bacteria away from your skin. It will balance your sebum production and will be great for nourishing your skin when needed. Especially after a long day at the beach. This oil can substitute your day and night cream.
ANTI-AGING FACE TREATMENT OIL (am/pm) :: this oil is extremely high in anti-oxidants, therapeutic essential oils, and omega fatty acids. It is highly nourishing for normal, dehydrated, mature or dull skin. Hyper-pigmentation concerns are treated with melanin reducing Licorice and Primrose oils. The scent and benefits of the infused vanilla beans with the essential oils is a combination that I created in my 27 years of practice.
ANTI-AGING WRINKLE EYE TREATMENT (am/pm) :: this easily absorbed oil is effective for dry, mature, sensitive or UV-damaged skin. It also treats hyper pigmentation, age spots and wrinkles. This little bottle is particularly travel friendly and perfect for in-flight hydration. A blend of therapeutic-grade oils to help restore the skin's tissue and effectively remove UV induced sun damage. Rosehip, Pumpkin, and Carrot Seed Oils deliver a potent cocktail of dark circle banishing Vitamin A, and Beta-Carotene. The delicate eye area's tissue is repaired with Marshmallow Root Extract and silica rich, collagen boosting Horsetail particularly when collagen loss has caused the under eye area to appear hollowed. May be used anytime you need hydration. It may also be used on the upper lip.
Were you introduced to holistic living + wellness at a young age or come across it later in life?
I would say it’s a combination of both. At a very young age in Israel when everyone was using Tylenol and Advil, I would be using herbal tinctures of Echinacea and Goldenseal. They were sold in one specific pharmacy very far from where I lived, but I insisted on getting these herbs. I was intrigued with the herbs and how well they worked. However, it wasn’t until I got older that I really explored all the facets of holistic living, and I continue to do so.
How do you balance building + running a business with staying centered + present?
It is definitely always a challenge. Especially when I built my company from scratch, during the time that I was still very ill. I am responsible for every aspect of my company, so it can be quite a balancing act. I would have to say that meditation and prayers are the answer to this question. I pray every morning before I do or touch anything. I pray for strength to be able to work at my full capacity and to help others. Then I mediate and bring light to every part of my body, and chant specific mantras for healing all humans and our universe. I also love taking long walks in Central Park and taking pictures during every season from the dreaming snow, to the blooming spring flowers. I practice yoga when I have the energy and try to remember to ‘breathe’ when challenges arise.
And what rituals are non-negotiables to help you keep that balanced + centered feeling?
Every morning I feed the birds, squirrels, and the stray cats that have adopted me and come every day to my garden. I feel so thankful and I am so lucky to have my garden in the middle of Manhattan. I grow herbs and flowers and sit quietly in the sun for 20 minutes every day to get my Vitamin D. I burn sage and Frankincense and Myrrh in my home and office daily.
Describe your perfect day?
A day where I wake up feeling energized, healthy and inspired. Where all flows easily and I am surrounded by people that I love, with good energy, delicious fresh organic food and excellent biodynamic wine. Somewhere in nature on a 75 degree, sun-kissed afternoon with a crisp breeze.
What is a typical breakfast? lunch? dinner? snack?
BREAKFAST | would be an organic fruit salad or fresh juices. If I am in a hurry and don’t have time to make breakfast, I will make a shake with fresh fruit, coconut oil, raw cacao, chai seeds, hemp seeds and camu camu with almond milk. These are varied and change a lot depending on what I feel I need at that moment but you get an idea.
LUNCH | is usually Mediterranean salad or green juices.
DINNER | changes often and is usually dictated by the weather. If it’s cold outside I tend to eat more roasted root vegetables and soups and homemade vegetable curry dishes to feel more grounded. In warmer months I tend to eat lighter. such as salads and homemade Mediterranean spreads or steamed veggies with an incredible dipping sauce. About once a month I will have a wild-caught fish that I make with rosemary, olive oil and lemon. I also love Thai food but they use so many preservatives in their sauces that I end up making it myself with much healthier ingredients. Asian food is really one of my favorites.
For warmer months my favorite beverage is an herb infusion of Lemon Verbena, Lemongrass, Hibiscus, Fennel Seeds and Rose Petals. I let it cool off overnight and have delicious chilled beverage for the next few days that is super healthy, good for the immune system, and very tasty. I also like sparkling water with infused raspberries, spearmint, and lime. For winter months I will make a concoction of Ginger, Turmeric Root with almond milk and a little honey.
What is your absolute favorite indulgence?
I am not a materialistic person, so it’s not going to be a diamond ring, and I don’t have a sweet tooth so it won’t be a decadent desert. But what I really love and need the most is a place that is quiet, by the ocean, with quality organic food and to be pampered with some incredible healing treatments.
What would your last meal on earth be?
Sushi! I haven’t eaten sushi for 10 years due to the parasites, metals and bacteria that are in raw fish. Plus these days the ocean is too contaminated for us to indulge in it. But since it would be my last day on earth it doesn’t really matter does it!
Where is/are your most favorite place/s to be on this earth?
One of my favorite places on earth is the Dead Sea. You can dig pure clay out of the ground and float in the water surrounded by chunks of pure salt that are full of great minerals that nourish your body. It’s also surrounded by the most amazing desert mountains and filled with beautiful botanicals and incredible variety of cacti.
Are there any other professional beauty | fitness | health gurus that inspire you?
The herbalist Stephen Buhner inspires me. He specializes in chronic infections and diseases. He is an amazing man and herbalist. Another person who I adore is Dr. Joseph Levry. He is a spiritual doctor and concentrates on how to heal your body. He has written several incredible books. More close to my heart and on a personal level, my energy healer Leila Astarabadi. She worked with the Harmonyum healing system that was actually created and founded by Dr. Joseph Levry. Another great doctor who is so out of the box and thank god that he is! He’s one of the best in the art of detoxifying the body, his name is Dr. Morse.
Please share with us a favorite beauty secret or tip?
If you really want to see a change you need to go deeper into things, so for me it’s never just about an easy quick fix tip, it’s about cleaning up the organs on the inside which will ultimately reflect your health and beauty on the outside. Some tips for that are the following:
- Best fruits for cleaning the body are grapes, watermelon, and grapefruit.
- Some herbs to clean the kidneys: Dandelion Leaf, Juniper Berry, Stinging Nettle, Cleavers, Marshmallow Root, and Goldenrod.
- Herbs to support the stomach (GI tract): Mullein Leaf, Plantain Leaf,Gentian Root, Fennel Seed, and Ginger Root.
- Supplements with good probiotics.
- Herbs for the Lymph nodes: Red Root, Echinacea Root, Parsley Leaf, Bayberry Root, Poke Root, Red Clover, Chlorella, and Spirulina.
- Herbs for Parasites: Black Walnut Hull, Cat’s Claw Bark, Goldenseal, Wormwood Herb, and Thyme Leaf.
- Some good herbs for the liver are Milk Thistle Seed, Asparagus Root, Barberry Root, Burdock Root, Cleavers Herb, Yellow Dock Root, and Turmeric Root.
What is your favorite mantra that you live by?
“Treat others like you want to be treated” and in a moment of struggling, pain and trauma it would be “this too shall pass”.
